Pixie Dust? Fairy Dust? Nope, it's Ellen's Stardust!

Ellen's Stardust Diner (the website is currently undergoing renovations, and although you should definitely check it out they do have a Facebook page for the time being) was an adorable restaurant and I had a smile on my face  the entire time I was in there. This also happens to be the restaurant that I had mentioned in my "John Really Knows His Pizza" blog that I ate dessert at and promised to write about, so hear we go.

On Ellen's Facebook page, this description is what they use to describe the diner, "Our retro 1950s theme dinner is filled with nostalgic memorabilia. What the best videos of the 1950s on authentic Predicta televisions & our 'drive-in theatre' screen," but it is so much more. While the food may not be the most gourmet or exotic, the food is  What the diner is really known for is its singing waitstaff. The waitstaff are all Broadway hopefuls and they're able to belt out and show-off their singing abilities by taking turns singing (the mobile upload is one of the waiters who had jumped up on a booth divider and is singing away). The waitstaff are truly talented and they pass around a collection jar asking for help on payments for auditions, singing and dance classes, etc. Many, if not most, of the waiters are able to make their dreams a reality and the staff is constantly changing with the next group of potentials.
So my verdict on Ellen's is this: if you are looking to take your date on a nice, quiet, romantic dinner, this is definitely not the restaurant for you. However, if you wanted to be in a loud, lively atmosphere and have your date serenaded while she was eating a delicious dessert (frozen hot chocolate, key lime pie, or one of Ellen's famous brownies) make your way to Broadway and West 51St!
