The definition of serendipity (according to dictionary.com) is an aptitude for making desirable discoveries by accident. Serendipity 3 truly lives up to that definition. Now, although Serendipity is a quite a famous and popular restaurant already, there are reviews everywhere and there are probably quite a few of you who have even been there already. I, however, had my first lunch there this past Saturday. Serendipity was definitely on my To Do List of things and place to go to in NY and I'm so glad I did.
First of all, the location is a major plus. It's right by Bloomingdale's, Dylan's Candy Bar, and California Pizza Kitchen to name a few of the places nearby. Serendipity is this tiny hole in the wall, that I almost missed if it wasn't for all the people waiting outside for the next available table. Although my aunt had tried to make reservations the day before, it is virtually impossible to make a reservation that last minute for almost any day, especially the weekends. We ended up having about an hour wait which we were able to spend at Bloomingdale's, Dylan's, and looking at all the little knick knacks and trinkets that are for sale and decoration inside Serendipity.
Once we were finally seated, we were sat on the first floor and we probably spent a good ten minutes trying to decide between the extensive and delicious sounding selections. When we had finally made up our minds, the first thing we had to order was there famous Frrrozen Hot Chocolate. Thank goodness we decided to share just one between the three of us, because it is definitely huge! It's supposed to be made with 14, or some other large number, of different kinds of chocolate and there are other variations like mint. It was amazing, not too sweet and definitely chocolate-y. I even bought one of their mixes that is enough for a whole blender full.
I ordered the Chicken Pot Pie, my friend ordered the sandwich called the High Heel Pump (prosciutto and melted brie on raisin pumpernickel with Russian dressing), and my aunt had the Charbroiled Norwegian Salmon with vegetables. My friend and I shared the pot pie and sandwich and I had some of the salmon and they were all delicious. I have a very good feeling that everything on the menu is fantastic due to the fan base and wait list. My aunt says that she usually comes to Serendipity for dessert after a meal or something sweet late at night, and looking around the restaurant, it seems like everyone else knew that the dessert side of the menu is the place to look. Unfortunately, we were all way to full to order anything after, but I definitely plan on going back and going through their sweets especially their Golden Opulence Sundae (not anytime soon since it's worth $1,0000.00).
Overall, I give a gigantic two thumbs up, along with everyone else who has fallen in love with Serendipity. I definitely suggest putting in a reservation because from what I've heard and seen, the wait is pretty ridiculous. The decor is magical and I especially loved the Tiffany&Co. shades above every table (that are actually for sale) but it's supposed to be particularly amazing during the holiday season. The one downside, besides the wait, is that your meal could be a tad on the pricey side, partly of the prices and partly since you're going to want to order everything on the menu. Definitely add Serendipity 3 to your To Do List if you haven't already!
